Green Net, an NGO established in 1993, actively promotes environmentally and socially sustainable production and consumption patterns and the diffusion of organic products. Green Net provides marketing and quality control services to small-scale farmers producing organic food through wholesale distribution centres for the domestic market and Fair Trade export.

Green Net initiated several organic conversion programmes providing technical support to small-scale farmers for the conversion and helping them to get the organic and Fair Trade certification.
Green Net promoted the planting of traditionnal rice seeds (Hom Mali), better adapted to difficult natural conditions (droughts, erosion,…). With the help of Green Net, small farmers can produce an organic rice of quality, without depending on the multinational compagnies which produce the seeds, the pesticides and the chemical fertilizers.

The small cooperatives transform and pack themselves their rice, sold on both local market and to different Fair Trade Organisations in Europe. More than 1 000 farming families living throughout Thailand benefit from Fair Trade conditions.
Green Net has also engaged in extensive public education activities on socially responsible and organic consumption and advocates for agriculture policy changes in Thailand.
|
Since 1993, Green Net has worked hard to develop the domestic Fair Trade and organic market. The number of organic shop expanded from 1 to around 40 in 1998. Today, Green Net is the first and major organic food wholesaler in Thailand.
