The Earl Grey Tea is the most popular blend drunk during the afternoon in the United Kingdom and in former British colonies.
It’s gentle fragrance is made from a blend of black tea and bergamot oil.
|
A Chinese saying tells that one can bear food deprivation during 3 days, but not even a single day without tea.
Integral part of day to day life in numerous cultures, green tea contains many antioxidants, and has diuretic and anti-ageing effects.
|
Orange Pekoe is a tea term that is commonly misunderstood. Unlike what its name may suggest, there is no orange in this tea! “Pekoe” means teas picked as 2 leaves & a bud.

while allowing the leaves to unfurl in the cup and release the full flavour of the tea.

Tea
Discovered 5 000 years ago, tea remains the most popular beverage in the world after water with 15 000 cups drunk per second.
Although it was first produced in China, most of its production is now from India. If billions of people enjoy their regular cup of tea, it is largely due to the Dutch who introduced it in Europe in the early 17th century.
All the different types of tea come from a sole plant called the Camellia sinensis. It is the leaf, season of harvest, drying method and spices that give tea its different flavours.

The Equita Difference
Fair:
Equita teas are made out of quality tea leaves, flowers and spices.
Imported from India and Sri Lanka, these ingredients are 100% Fair Trade certified. Cultivated in controlled conditions, these teas are entirely organic, containing no pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
Social:
Green:
Equita strongly believes in the ecological design of its products.
As a result, this box is made of recycled paperboard and printed with vegetable ink rather than regular petroleum-based ink.
The teabags are not chlorine, but oxygen bleached.

A Fair Price!
Fair Trade tea is directly purchased from the plantation or co-operative. The price paid for Fair Trade tea covers the production costs in addition to a Fair Trade premium of 50 cents to 1 US$ per kilo.
For green tea (bag cut type), Equita pays a guaranteed minimum of 4.45 US$ per kg plus a 0.5 US$ Fair Trade premium which is reinvested in community projects. In the case of SOFA, one of our producer co-ops, this premium goes directly back to the tea pickers themselves. For plantations, like OOTHU, a committee called a Joint Body, elected by the workers, decides how these funds will be used to meet the community’s needs.

The Producers’ CO-OPs
SOFA:
The Small Organic Farmers’ Association co-operative of Sri Lanka brings 350 families together who are dedicated to the production of organic tea.
With the premiums offered by the Fair Trade system, these families have been able to start a scholarship system for children and to develop a micro-credit program for women.
In addition, all the workers now learn how to read and write.
OOTHU:
Thanks to Fair Trade, workers of the Oothu plantation, in southern India, can join trade unions and benefit from better work conditions.
They also have access to medical accommodation.
Moreover, every worker of the plantation has the right to alphabetisation courses.
